Aan het draaien van een eigen server (mits toegestaan door de provider) zitten allerlei haken en ogen. Zo moeten er vaak meerdere componenten worden geïnstalleerd die ook nog eens met elkaar moeten samenwerken. XAMPP biedt alle componenten die nodig zijn om aan de slag te gaan. Je kunt er mee werken wanneer je alleen een simpele website vanaf je eigen pc wilt draaien maar je kunt als je wilt ook alle toeters en bellen uit de kast halen die maar te bedenken zijn. (eigen ftp- en mailservers, mysql-databases en allerlei php-scripts.)
XAMPP, het downloaden (op een memorystick)Hieronder kun je de door ons gebruikte versie van XAMPP downloaden.
Aan de 'Lite' versie heb je ruim voldoende!. Sla de .EXE file op (rechtermuisknop) in de root van je memorystick (of harde schijf thuis).
Echte liefhebbers kunnen natuurlijk op de downloadsite van XAMPP terecht voor de nieuwste versie.
Benodigde ruimte (belangrijk als je op een andere memorystick installeert):
- XAMPP Lite: 16MB (download), 105MB (unzipped and installed)
- XAMPP: 28MB (download), 213MB (unzipped and installed)
XAMPP, het uitpakken en de installatie (op een memorystick)If you extract XAMPP in a top level folder like c:\xampp or d:\xampp etc., you can start XAMPP directly. That means you do not need to execute the "setup_xampp.bat" at all. Apache, MySQL and Mercury Mail server will start up correctly!
Dus wanneer je XAMPP wap instaleert in de root-directory van een memorystick, kun je die overal mee naar toe nemen en gebruiken, zonder dat er aanpassingen in het Windows register nodig zijn.
Ga via 'deze computer' naar je memorystick en klik op het .EXE bestand.
Achter 'Extract to' staat de root van je memorystick: Een map wordt gemaakt en alles wordt uitgepakt:

Test: After Apache starts, open the URL http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1 and examine all of the XAMPP examples and tools.
Please note: Do not use a double-xampp-folder like c:\xampp\xampp! You need a single-xampp folder like d:\xampp(\apache and so on). Otherwise you must run the "setup-xampp.bat" to set up the path configurations.
